UCD Davis. Non-violent protesters. Pepper spray.

Watch this and feel sick.

And you can argue in semantic circles all day long with me about what constitutes a non-violent protest, about obstruction of the police or the right to assemble or what the occupy movement does or does not stand for.

This. This is pretty god damn awful.

It wasn’t too many years ago that people were calling the young adults of today complacent and apathetic. They railed against them for those attributes. And here they are, being the opposite of complacent and apathetic and now those same people are calling them out for actually standing up for the things they believe in, for wanting to fight for the chance to turn this country around.

They are out there. They are doing something. They are voicing their opinions, standing up for their beliefs, taking action instead of sitting around complaining about shit but doing anything to effect change. They are trying to make a difference.

Isn’t that part of what America is all about? Where would we be without the Boston Tea Party? What if that turning point in a growing revolution wasn’t allowed to happen?

Now we’re pepper spraying peaceful protesters. Now we’re barring the press from witnessing police crackdowns on those protesters. Now we have police covering up their badges.

I watch this video and I can almost hear this cop thinking “This is what you get when you mess with us.”

Come on, America. We’re better than this.

Aren’t we?
